Son & Son are Penny Anderson and David Robinson, a husband and wife architect team passionate about all aspects of residential design. Our focus is bringing to life buildings that enhance our daily experiences.
We see each new project as an exciting series of opportunities. These can be small opportunities like capturing a view in a unique way, or more major like creating a harmony where there was conflict. Whether a house is successful or not should be measured by how it makes you feel. A good house can enhance family relationships and smooth friction, providing a calm sense of well being. Open spaces can make for greater connections but the opposite can also be true at times.
"houses are our specialty"
We feel that listening to how you live now and how you wish to live in the future is the most important skill we have. We work with you to develop your brief and together create something new and unique. Something that is tailored to your wishes but is better than you could have imagined.
'Custom' is a term that is thrown around carelessly in the building industry. We start each project with no preconceptions, open minded and ready to explore all possibilities, confident that through a process of making and testing your ideal 'home' will reveal itself.

While we are open to designing all building types, houses are our specialty. We are equally happy working on new homes or alterations and additions, both have their own unique challenges. The intimate scale and ability to craft the whole site from the garden to the furniture is of great appeal. Also the opportunity to get to know you (the inhabitants) and design with you in mind is what drives us. While we are happy to work for developers, it is always more rewarding to design for somebody specific. It allows for an extra 'layer' to the design. We wish to design houses that will be enjoyed by families for decades to come.

Over ten years working as architects in Perth we have got to know both ends of the market well, designing luxury homes in the western suburbs alongside social housing in the state's north. Their similarities are greater than their differences and we carry the same approach to our work regardless of budget. We enjoy people and we enjoy talking about architecture, so are always happy to hear about potential projects and answer questions.
